Hot Hot Hot

Thursday, August 09, 2007

August is a strange month.  I’ve always thought of it as the month when summer winds down and makes way for September and school and cooler weather, but sometimes it surprises me.  For instance, this heat wave going on all over the place.  It’s been over 100 degrees here the past couple days, and I hear that a little farther north in Michigan it’s been in the 90s.  I can remember Augusts that required sweatshirts shortly after the first of the month.  You never can tell, it seems.

But what you’re really wondering is how I can pop on here and just nonchalantly start discussing the weather, when I’ve been absent from this blog for nearly a month, right?  Well, I have absolutely nothing to say for myself.  Except that I’ve been busy doing this, and this, among other things.  Plus, my Wacom pen died and had to get sent in for repairs, and I just haven’t felt myself in its absence.  Okay, that last bit is malarky (well, my pen really did die, but I haven’t been too traumatized by its absence).

Mia, in her effort to reach the terrible twos early, finds new things to get into daily.  She has taken to discovering ink pens in various places and then tatooing herself with them.  It doesn’t matter how secure I think I’ve made all of the writing implements in our house, she will find the one I missed, and then I’m lucky if it doesn’t occur to her that the walls might be fun to draw on, too.  But I have to say that it pleases me that she apparently likes to draw.  Maybe we will have that in common as she grows older.

Bobby is still plugging right along, growing closer to the date (in two weeks, I think) when he is officially fully licensed to sell stocks and bonds and various other things that I still don’t completely understand.  He works very hard almost from the time he gets up to the time he goes to bed, and it’s been stressful, but we just keep reminding ourselves that this is temporary.  And I’m just trying to be as helpful and supportive as I can.  Even though my hours aren’t a lot shorter than his lately.

And we are still in the process of finding a good church to attend–the last step in truly settling into a new home.  This is the fifth time we’ve had to start from scratch in a new area since we’ve been married, and you’d think we’d be good at finding churches by now.  But as we grow and learn, we fine tune what we look for in a church.  And since we hope to settle in this area for a long time, we want to find a church we can truly feel at home at.  A decision to be made with much prayer and contemplation.

Anyways, here are some fun layouts I’ve done in the past month. :)
