Blending Into Fall!

Monday, October 15, 2007

Hello everybody!  My name is Kara, and I’m one of the very lucky ladies who gets to create for Sweet Genevieve Designs.  Before we get to this week’s challenge, we’d like to thank everyone who participated in last week’s challenge!  Our random winner in the last challenge was Seniorgal!  You can check out her layout here!

If you check out this blog regularly, you know the Genevieve just came out with some AWESOME fall product!  In honor of these gorgeous designs, I thought it would be a great idea to challenge you all to scrap some of your favorite fall photos!  It can be photos of the kids playing in the leaves, the trees changing color, or those Halloween photos from 7 years ago that you haven’t scrapped yet.  If you can connect it to fall, you can use it for this challenge.

Sounds easy, right?  Oh, I must have forgotten to mention the “hard” part!  We want you to be able to practice those wonderful scrapping skills you’ve been working so hard to perfect.  So, we’re asking that for this challenge, you practice your blending skills.  Blending can be done in a variety of ways, even ones that may not be as obvious.  Take, for example, Jodie’s layout:

Notice that it is nearly impossible to tell where the photo ends and Genevieve’s doodles begin.  She was able to blend the photo and elements seamlessly!  She also chose to blend a few of the larger leaves into her background, to give her layout that extra touch.

In my layout, I chose to blend smaller copies of the title into the background:

While we’ve highlighted 2 ways in which you might choose to use blending on your layouts, there are many, many ways to use this technique.  So show us what you’ve got!  If you link us up to your layout before Midnight PST, October 31, you will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift card to Genevieve’s store.  What are you waiting for?  Get scrapping!!!

Hey all! I am so excited to be typing this...our first challenge! Since Genevieve chose such a rockin’ guest for October, we decided to do a “Scraplift the Guest” challenge! Andrea (HappyScrapMom) has a gallery FULL of amazing layouts to choose from! Before I show off a few of our “Andrea Scraplifts” I will share a little Q&A I did with Andrea this week so you can all get to know her a little better!

Q: Can we have you....in a nutshell?
A: I’m a SAHM to 3 wild little boys and been married to the love of my life for 14.5 years. I live in Utah and love digi-scrapping (which I found a year ago). I make fresh ground, whole wheat bread every week and have done this for 2 years, my family loves it! If you ever want a good recipe, let me know! My DH and I are certified scuba divers and love to dive when we can (which has been a few years now, lol) and our family loves to travel and go to any beach - warm or cold! I’m thrilled to be guesting this month for our FABULOUS Sweet Genevieve!

Q: How long have you been scrapping?
A: I was a paper scrapper for 10 years, then I found digi one year ago and have never looked back at paper scrapbooking! I love digi!

Q: What is your inspiration?
A: My kids, my family, my photos of them! (and I love to look at the Pottery Barn catalogs and purses and clothes for inspiration too!)

Q: How long do you usually spend on a layout?
A: I would say average of 1.5 hours, but lately I have been doing more like an hour each.

Q: How would you describe your scrapping style?
A: Well, it varies! Lately, I have been more clean and simple, but I always love grunge and whimsy stuff!

Q: What is your go-to element for layouts...the one you can’t scrap without?
A: Good paper and I love frames!

Q: What is your favorite Sweet Geneiveve product?
A: Um . . . where I begin! I would have to say The Be Collection - it is GORGEOUS and fun to work with! Here is a layout I just did with two of the ktis from that collection (The Extras and Be Brainy).

Ok...so, on top of being an awesome scrapper she makes time for bread-baking. Weekly bread baking.  I’m impressed! Who could blame Gen for swiping her up as an October Guest.  My guess is Gen is hoping for a shipment of homemade bread in return. LOL!  Ok...back to business.

Here are a few scraplifted layouts to give you some inspiration:

Abuela, by Kara (MommySpice)

Kara’s layout called Abuela was a lift of Andrea’s layout called The DadsCredits: The Be Collection Extras, The Be Collection: Be Dreamy, Tea-Stained Ribbon Wraps all by Sweet Genevieve Designs; Folded Tear Template by Karah Fredricks

Genevieve’s (yes, THE Genevieve...LOL) layout called Nature Girl is a lift of Andrea’s Baby Faith layout.  Credits: The Be Collection: Be Earthy, Festive Fall Doodles, Graphic Flair Brush Set, alpha stamps from the Be Collection Extras all by Sweet Genevieve Designs

Ok, so you’ve seen a few lifts, learned about Andrea in all of her scrapping and bread-making glory...now it’s time to hear what this free stuff is all about.  All you have to do is scraplift one of Andrea’s layouts using mostly Sweet Genevieve products, post a comment here with a link to your layout, and then hope you’re the random winner! Easy enough, right? Make sure your layout link is posted here as a comment before midnight (CST) on Friday, October 12.

If you have any questions, please post them here...someone will check in at least daily.  smile Have fun, good luck, and thanks for reading my ramblings!
